This week Microsoft will unveil “the next generation of Windows”, which is the most significant one in the past 10 years. The event will feature Panos Panay, the face of Microsoft’s Surface line. This move comes a week after Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella teased major enhancements to the next version of the Windows operating system for developers as well as creators.
Nadella made the remarks on the operating system shortly after Microsoft announced that it won’t ship Windows 10X. Originally the Windows 10X operating system was designed for dual-screen devices such as the Surface Neo, which has been delayed.
The company then honed its focus on single-screen PCs such as the laptops for Windows 10X before saying last month that instead of bringing Windows 10X product to the market in 2021 as they had originally intended to, they will bring updates to the operating system by leveraging learnings from their journey. Additionally, they are accelerating the integration of key foundational 10X technology into other parts of Windows and products at the company.
The company announced the latest update for Windows 10 last month with only slight changes. Microsoft is working on a Windows update with the code name “Sun Valley”. The latest update includes a more modern appearance, with rounded corners to the components such as the Start menu. The company could ship a revamp of its Windows app store that would allow developers to use the third-party commerce systems, alongside the Sun Valley update.
According to an invitation sent by Microsoft to the reports, the unveiling event will be held online at 11 am ET. Further, the invitation said that Nadella will be there along with Panos Panay, Chief Product Officer of Microsoft who has been the face of the company’s Surface devices.
Windows- the dominant operating system for personal computers, is the source of 14% of the total revenue for Microsoft, one of the most valuable companies in the world. The company has pushed two updates every year to its Windows 10 operating system since it was first released in 2015 worldwide.
The company is planning to launch the “next generation of Windows” at an event later this month. The software giant started sending their invites to the media for a Windows event that will be held later this month. Satya Nadella, CEO, and Panos Panay, Chief Product Officer, Microsoft will be presenting at the Windows event that will start at 11 am ET/ 8 am PT on June 24th.
The invite comes just a week after Nadella teased the next generation of Windows announcement. Microsoft is expected to launch its next significant changes to Windows that will likely include many visual enhancements. So, we will see some significant UI changes to Windows under the “Sun Valley” update. Also, the company’s event invitation teases a new Windows logo.
Last month the software giant confirmed that Windows 10X, the operating system originally built for dual-screen devices will no longer be shipped. And now, the company is rolling the visual elements of Windows 10X into the main version of Windows 10 instead.
Latest Version of Windows from Microsoft
A lot of the visual work has already started with the new system icons, the File Explorer improvements, and the end of Windows 95-era icons. The company is also focusing on improving the basic foundations of Windows, with fixes for a rearranging apps issue on multiple monitors, the addition of the Xbox Auto HDR feature, and improvements to Bluetooth audio support.
As Nadella promised to unlock a better economy for developers and creators within Windows, we’ll be more likely to get a closer look at the store changes coming to this operating system. The company has been working on a new app store for Windows in the past recent months. It is rumored that the software giant will open its store up to all the apps and rival payment platforms.
The company will launch this latest version of Windows via a virtual event- Build 2021. The company CEO had earlier teased the arrival of the Windows update as unlocking the economic opportunities for developers and creators alike. Some reports claim that the upcoming update has been codenamed internally as “Project Sun Valley”. It is anticipated to bring a UI (User Interface) overhaul and a brand-new Windows app store.
The company will likely detail all the features coming to the next generation Windows update at this event later this month. The US-based tech giant, Redmond has listed a new event on its website scheduled for June 24 at 11 am ET (8:30 pm IST). Microsoft has also tweeted through their Windows handle on Twitter which says that the event will highlight all that’s coming “next for Windows”.
Also, an image attached to the event invitation hints at a slight change to the Windows logo. Users can head over to the event page on the official website of Microsoft to schedule a reminder for the unveiling.
